Cortlandville Fire Department Celebrates Seven High School Graduates Who Serve as Volunteer Firefighters

The Cortlandville Fire Department has recognized seven high school graduates from three local schools who also serve as members of two fire departments in Cortland County. Cortlandville Fire says all seven are volunteers and began their service when they turned 16 years old.


With that commitment, they spent 180 hours of fire training, emergency medical training, but also participated in school sports and achieved academic recognitions during their respective graduation ceremonies.

Graduates with the Cortlandville Fire Department are:

  • Ethan Wakula – Cortland High School
  • Cody Paquin – Cortland High School
  • Gabe Friedman – McGraw High School
  • Peter Verfuss – Homer High School

Graduates with the Virgil Fire Department are:

  • Addison Brown – Cortland High School
  • Kaden Brown – Cortland High School
  • Declan Vail – Cortland High School
