Cortland’s Taravella To Take New Red Cross Leadership Role

Local News

Cortland’s Rosie Taravella, currently the Regional CEO for the Red Cross of Western and Central New York, has accepted the role of CEO of the New Jersey Region.

Her new duties will begin on Monday, June 25 and her last day in her current position will be Friday, June 22.

The New Jersey Region has six chapters serving the state’s 8.8 million residents. Taravella will be based at the Central New Jersey Chapter in Princeton.

In a statement provided to X101, Taravella said, “I am proud and humbled to have been selected for this promotion by senior leaders of our national organization. It is bitter sweet for me, as Western and Central New York has been my six-year home. Along the way, I have been treated to the most committed colleagues and volunteers anyone could ask for, who appreciate the history of our territory and continue to work to make it great.”

Taravella became the Regional Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross of Central New York in early 2012, overseeing the organization’s service delivery, fundraising efforts and brand visibility throughout 16 Central New York counties.

In late 2014, her region was expanded to include Western New York, providing oversight for 26 counties.

During her tenure, Rosie developed a vision and strategy to increase the teamwork of employees reporting across 26 counties, executed a plan to reduce the number of facilities in the region to better utilize donor dollars, and partnered with emergency management officials to develop community resilience and improve readiness for large scale disasters.

She was invited to participate in the Health Foundation Leadership Fellows Program of Western and Central NY from 2013-2015, and was awarded “Nonprofit Executive of the Year” by the Central NY Business Journal in 2014.

In 2017-2018, she was honored to deploy twice on behalf of the Red Cross, as an elected official liaison for Hurricane Harvey and as interim CEO of the Red Cross Greater New York Region.
