Cortland Woman Charged With Welfare Fraud


A Cortland woman has been arrested after an investigation conducted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cortland County Department of Social Services after she received benefits she wasn’t entitled to in excess of $1,700.

It was reported in April of this year, 32 year old Marissa R. Labella of Cortland, had filed fraudulent paperwork with County DSS regarding her income and additionally failed to report household income which is required.

Labelle was charged with Welfare Fraud in the 4th, Grand Larceny in the 4th, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st, all Felonies. She was issued with appearance tickets and is due in Cortland City Court later this month.
