Cortland Woman Arrested For Welfare Fraud – Received Over $7K in Benefits Not Entitled To

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Cortland woman after an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and County Department of Social Services. The Sheriff’s Office arrested 37 year old JerriAnn Harris of Cortland on Friday, May 3rd.


An investigation found Harris provided fraudulent information to the County Department of Social Services regarding her previous residence and withheld information regarding receiving benefits out of state while she was residing in Cortland County.

The Sheriff’s Office says as a result of the information provided, Harris received benefits she was not entitled to in excess of $7,000.

Harris faces charges of 3 Counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st, Welfare Fraud in the 3rd, and Grand Larceny in the 3rd, all Felonies. She was arraigned on Friday and then released. Harris is due in Cortland City Court next week.
