Cortland Superintendent Says Parker School Meals Are Fine
Though parents of kindergarteners at Parker School have expressed concerns over the lunch menu, Superintendent Bob Edwards said the menu meets all nutritional standards.
The hood of the oven at Parker School did not pass inspection, which caused the change in the school’s food service, he said.
“Our food service person is working through all of that, and has been,” Edwards said. “We continue to be very conscientious of our food.”
The school lunch menu at Parker School shows a limited “hot foods” menu with Fridays consisting of Pizza and two other days in the month of September, the 16th and 25th, listing “hot meals” The remainder of the lunch menu for the month lists “assorted fresh veggies with dip or hummus”; students also have a second choice of an UnCrustable PB&J sandwich.
“We have a perfect menu in the building, so what I’d say to parents who don’t think the menu is nutritional enough, is that it’s definitely nutritional,” Edwards said. “It matches all of the USDA nutritional standards that our food service person is an expert on and studies.”
Cortland Enlarged City School District is part of the Federal Food Program, so all students can receive free breakfast and lunch.
Anybody who has concerns over the menu should reach out to School Lunch Manager
Francis Zaryski at 607-758-4110 ext. 1338, or Business Administrator Kristopher Williamson at 607-758-4100, Edwards said.
“I was over there today, and saw a lot of happy kindergarteners having a great lunch,”
he added.
