Two Cortland High School students won state and regional awards in Albany this week.
Senior Katherine Couture and Junior Kelsey Gibbons won the Statewide and Central Region Youth Advocate of the Year awards.
They are part of the “Reality Check” effort from the Bureau of Tobacco Control for New York State.
Couture and Gibbons were recognized for holding tobacco companies accountable for marketing to youth.
The awards were presented on Tuesday after the students met with State Senator James Seward and Assemblyman Gary Finch.
The annual trip to Albany allows the students to educate lawmakers about the burden of tobacco addiction in our state.
