Cortland School District budget vote set for May 18

Cortland Schools Board of Education met Monday and approved the 2021-2022 school budget.

The adopted plan is $50,848,256, an increase of 1.35% from 2020-2021. The tax levy is $18,107,360, which maximizes the state limit of 2.01%. The estimated True Tax Rate per thousand is $17.70.

Next steps include a public hearing on May 11th at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium at the Jr. Sr. High School.

A budget vote will be held on May 18th from 12:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Community members will vote at their designated site:

  • Virgil Town Hall
  • Cortlandville Town Hall
  • Kaufman Center (CECSD District Office).

Each ballot will include three propositions — the first for the overall budget; the second to replace old school buses; and the third to approve the Cortland Free Library budget.

Voters will also decide any open Board of Education seats.
