On Tuesday, November 1st, the Finger Lakes Land Trust had announced it had acquired 15-acres of steep forested land on Glen Haven Rd. in the Town of Niles in Cayuga County.
The land was donated by Cortland County residents Karen and Chet Seibert.
When asked why Karen and Chet donated the land to the trust they said “We want to protect the precious land and pure water for future generations.”
The 15-acres donated is located adjacent to an existing property the trust acquired back in 2020. The Finger Lakes Land Trust is dedicated to creating a network of conserved lands at the south end of Skaneateles lake to “ensure the scenic character of the area and safeguards wildlife habitat.”
The trust noted that protecting the steep hillside property from ever increasing development will prevent erosion and keep sediment from going into the lake.
