Cortland Police Warn of Social Media Hoax

The City of Cortland Police Department is alerting the public of an ongoing social media hoax that has been spreading throughout the Cortland area. CPD says a social media post is regarding a man who pretended to be homeless and was attacking people.

Cortland Police say this is a known social media hoax that has spread throughout the country. A recent posting of the hoax highlighted Cortland County, which brought an alert from residents. CPD says similar posts can be found online and a reserve image search of the alleged suspects goes back to another country for a person with a different name and a different arrest.

Cortland Police are asking residents to not share the post and continue to spread the fake report.
