The City of Cortland Police Department is warning the public after several reports of counterfeit $100 bills being passed around the city of Cortland.
The bills being used are harder to detect as counterfeit and are in the older bill design (1996-2006). One thing to note the police department has found is the bills have the same serial number.
One thing to look out for is anyone buying large amounts of pre-paid cards or cash app cards.
Take note of any information of the person trying to cash the bills including, the vehicle they are driving, plate number, description of the suspect(s).
Cortland Police reminds everyone that no two bills will have the same serial number.
Anyone who believes there is a problem with currency being passed is asked to call the City of Cortland Police Department to Lieutenant Dan Edwards at 607-758-8307.
