Cortland Police Make Arrest After Standoff – Suspect Held Two Against Their Will


On Thursday, November 30th, Cortland Police responded to a complaint at 19 Elm Street in the City of Cortland of 40 year old Christopher C. Gillette was holding two people against their will at the location.

Officers also learned Gillette was reportedly armed with a knife and possible firearm. During the investigation, officers were able to have the two people out of the residence without incident. Police also learned Gillette had an order of protection against him with one of the persons involved.

Cortland Police said in a release, after a period of time Gillette left the scene in a taxi. Officers ended up stopping the taxi on Clinton Ave. in the city, where a standoff occurred with Gillette and officers.

After about two hours in the standoff, Gillette produced a knife in a manner to harm himself. He was eventually taken into custody by officers.

Gillette faces charges of Criminal Contempt in the 1st, Aggravated Family Offense, both Felonies, and Obstruction Governmental Admin. A Misdemeanor. He was arraigned in Cortland City Court and sent to Cortland County Jail on no Bail.
