Cortland Police Hold Walk-Out Ceremony For Officer Locke
On Friday afternoon, law enforcement agencies from across the Cortland area joined the City of Cortland Police Department in honoring Officer Benjamin Locke with a walk-out ceremony marking his retirement.
Locke retires after 20 years of service with the department, having begun his career in February 2006.
During his tenure, Cortland Police credited Locke for his work as a defensive tactics instructor, tactical team member, and field training officer. He played a key role in preparing and mentoring numerous officers, ensuring they were ready for solo patrol duties.
“Officer Locke’s leadership and knowledge were invaluable to the police department,” Cortland Police said in a release. “He is specifically recognized for his training in defensive tactics over the years, where his expertise has made both the department and the City of Cortland a much better place. Officer Locke’s calm demeanor, along with his unwavering presence in the face of danger, has been admirable.”
Following his retirement, Locke will continue serving the community as a School Resource Officer with the Cortland City School District.
