Cortland Police – Cortland Man Strangles Woman and Points Loaded Gun at Her


On Thursday, April 18th, around 3:45 in the morning, Cortland Police responded to 25 Court Street in the City of Cortland for a reported physical domestic dispute. Cortland Police say the suspect, 44 year old Spencer L. DaFoe of Cortland, had engaged in a verbal and physical domestic dispute with a female acquaintance.

Cortland Police also said during the dispute, DaFoe choked the female victim until she was near unconsciousness. DaFoe also damaged her cellphone and prevented her from calling for help. He also pointed a loaded rifle at the female victim and threatened to kill her.

Officers arrested and charged DaFoe with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd, Strangulation in the 2nd, both Felonies, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th, and Criminal Mischief in the 4th, both Misdemeanors. Cortland Police added DaFoe had a prior criminal record that prevented him from possessing a firearm.

He was arraigned in Cortland City Court later that day and remanded to Cortland County Jail on $1,500 cash bail. DaFoe is due back in Cortland City Court early next month.
