Cortland Police Arrest Man For Trying to Steal Work Truck From Image First – Found to be Drunk

Tuesday night, officers with the City of Cortland Police Department responded to the area of Image First at 67 Huntington Street in the City of Cortland for a report of a suspicious person. On arrival and investigation, officers found a large glass door and a window that was smashed out at Image First.


Officers continued to search the area and found 18 year old Mason A. Aleba of Cortland, in one of Image Firsts Ryder Trucks with the engine to the truck running. Cortland Police say Aleba was attempting to drive away in the vehicle.

Aleba was also found to be drunk. He was arrested and charged with Attempted Grand Larceny in the 3rd, Criminal Mischief in the 3rd, both Felonies, Escape in the 3rd, DWI, Driving a Motor Vehicle .08 or More, all Misdemeanors, and Unlicensed Operator, a Violation.

He was taken to the Police Station for processing. Cortland Police while at the police station, Aleba managed to slip out of his handcuffs and then attempted to run out of the building, but ran into a locked door. Officers took him back into custody and was later issued an appearance ticket and released to a relative.

Aleba is due in Cortland City Court next month.
