On Wednesday, October 18th arrested 36 year old Karl F. Doktorich of Cortland after he confronted a City of Cortland Police officer who was headed home.
Cortland Police say Doktorich confronted the officer in an “aggressive manner” while he was carrying a sign and asking for money. Things escalated when the officer informed Doktorich he was not giving him money. That is when Doktorich attempted to break the officer’s car window and swore at him.
Doktorich then fled inside 14 Port Watson Street (Gable Inn). As other officers located him inside, he refused to open the door. Cortland Police waited for him to come out, which he did a short time later. As officer’s attempted to take him into custody, Doktorich fought with officers and was able to run back inside his apartment within the building.
Cortland Police then obtained an arrest warrant for Doktorichs arrest at the Police Station. As officers were getting the warrant, a bystander reported to police of a man in the City Hall parking lot slashing a tire on a vehicle; the vehicle affected was the officer he originally harassed.
CPD returned to 14 Port Watson and were eventually able to take Doktorich into custody. He was charged with Criminal Mischief in the 3rd, a Felony, Resisting Arrest, a Misdemeanor, and Harassment, a Violation.
He was processed and later released on appearance tickets.
