Cortland Officer Recognized For Life Saving Actions

During Monday evening’s Central New York Association of Chiefs of Police awards banquet, an officer with the City of Cortland Police Department was recognized for his life saving actions from a call last June.

Officer Tyler Zacek was presented with the Life Saving Award by Homer Police Chief Pitman, who is the President of the CNY Association of Chiefs of Police. The award recognized Officer Zacek’s actions when a person was attacked by three dogs in her residence. He was able to stop the dogs from attacking the individual and then provided life saving measures by applying tourniquets to control hemorrhaging and packing two wounds with blood clotting bandages.

In attendance for the award included Chief of the City of Cortland Police Department, David Guerrera and Deputy Chief Cute.
