Cortland man tries fleeing police after dispute

A Cortland man was arrested after spending a day on the run from police, following a domestic disturbance on Sunday evening (July 5) in the town of Cuyler.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded just before 8:30 pm to a residence on East Keeney Road, where 26-year-old Kyle Dayton, of Northcliffe Road in Cortland, reportedly pushed and choked someone who lived there while in the presence of a two-year-old child.

Dayton then fled before police arrived and wasn’t located until the following evening, after after officers secured and executed his arrest warrant.

Following arraignment, he was remanded to Cortland County Jail on cash bail set at just $1.
