Cortland Man Found With Crack Cocaine, Powder Cocaine, and Packaging Materials During Traffic Stop in Ithaca
Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne says a Cortland man is behind bars following a multi law enforcement agency collaboration. On Wednesday, February 4, the Tompkins County Sheriff, Ithaca Police, and State Police conducted a joint operation through the Gun Involved Violence Elimination initiative.
It was during this initiative, deputies witnessed a blue 2021 Mercedes committing multiple traffic infractions on Fourth Street in the City of Ithaca. The vehicle was pulled over on Madison Street with the driver identified as 34 year old Breon J. Brooks of Cortland.
During the traffic stop, a narcotics canine was deployed and alerted officers to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. A search was then conducted in the vehicle. Osborne says deputies found 28 baggies of what is believed to be crack cocaine, 10 baggies of powder cocaine, and packaging materials and a scale.
Brooks was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd (Weight Exceeding one-half ounce), and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd (Intent to Sell), both Felonies. He was also issued several traffic citations.
Brookes was transported to the Tompkins County Jail for processing and held for arraignment. Sheriff Osborne says the investigation reflects the ongoing collaboration among local and state law enforcement partners.
