A little before 6 o’clock in the evening on Friday, November 24th, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of Fairview Drive in Cortlandville. Responding officers learned the vehicle that caused the accident had also fled the scene.
That vehicle was found a short time later in the City of Cortland. An investigation of the operator of the vehicle, identified as 45 year old Nicholas P. Nino of Cortland, found he was driving drink and also driving while his NYS drivers license was suspended due to a previous DWI offense.
Officers arrested Nino and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st, a Felony, DWI, a Misdemeanor, and numerous traffic infractions. He was taken to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and later arraigned the following day. Nino was remanded to the Cortland County Jail on $500 cash or $1,000 bond.
Nino is due to appear in Cortlandville Town Court next month. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation was the City of Cortland Police Department.
