Cortland Man Crashes Car into Tree; Found to Have Sawed Off Shotgun

Early Tuesday (June 21st) morning around 6:15am City of Cortland Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident of a car into a tree on Rickard Street in the City of Cortland.


When officers arrived they found the operator of the vehicle James D. Wright to be in possession of two rifles and a sawed off shotgun.

Officers arrested Wright for the possession of the sawed off shotgun, which had a barrel length of less than eighteen inches. Due to his criminal past Wright is not legally allowed to possess any of the weapons found.

James Wright was charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon 3rd degree, a felony, and three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree, a misdemeanor.

Wright was taken to Cortland County Jail on no bail.
