Cortland Man Charged With DWI After Crash in Town of Homer

Around 7:45 in the evening on Friday, December 13th, State Police were dispatched to Forbes Road in the Town of Homer for another call when they saw a man walking from the roadway into a driveway. Troopers stopped to check on the man, identified as 39 year old Shaun J. Atkinson of Cortland.

During their investigation with Atkinson, Troopers learned he had crashed his vehicle near Corl Hill Road along Forbes Road in the Town of Homer. As Troopers spoke with Atkinson further, they saw characteristics that is associated with impairment.

Troopers asked Atkinson to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which confirmed his impairment. Atkinson was arrested and charged with DWI, a Misdemeanor. He was then transported to SP Homer where State Police say his B.A.C. was .14%, almost double the legal limit.

Atkinson was processed and issued an appearance ticket for Homer Town Court next month. He was then released to a sober third party.
