Cortland Man Arrested Two Days In A Row; Second Time For Stealing Utility Trailer

Cortland City Police have arrested a Cortland man, just a day after being arrested by Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputies for violating a court order to surrender all weapons. That investigation on the weapons was a joint effort by the Sheriff’s Office and City Police Department.


Cortland Man Arrested After Violating Court Order on Weapons Possession

Yesterday, City police arrested Nicholas G. Stone, age 38, of Cortland after receiving a complaint back on January 7th, that a 1996 white Avenger enclosed utility trailer was stolen from a job site in the Riverside Plaza at 156 Clinton Avenue. The trailer is owned by local construction company, CSC Construction.

Police say the trailer was located by a hiker on a snowmobile trail just south of Pipeline Rd. in Cortland County. The trailer had numerous construction tools and equipment stolen out of the trailer. During the investigation several search warrants were executed and a lot of the stolen property has been recovered. The total property stolen was valued at over $50,000.00.

Nicholas Stone was charged with four felonies, Grand Larceny, Tampering with physical evidence, Conspiracy and Possession of Stolen Property.

This investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely say police.

He was arraigned and sent to the Cortland County Jail and will be back in court today. (February 1st)
