Cortland Man Arrested After Sending Threatening Messages to Victim

Officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Maybury Road in Solon last Wednesday evening for a reported harassment. During officers investigation, they determined 42 year old Eric W. Smith of Cortland, sent threatening messages to the victim. The Sheriff’s Office says Smith knew the victim.

The Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for Smiths arrest the following day, January 29. Smith was located around 2:40 that morning and arrested. He faces charges of Aggravated Family Offense, a Felony, and Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd, a Misdemeanor.

Smith was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and was later arraigned through the centralized arraignment process. He was remanded to Cortland County Jail on $500 cash bail. Smiths next court date in Solon Town Court is next month.
