A Cortland home health aid was arrested last week after city investigators say she stole a bank card from a disabled ARC resident under her care and used it to steal more than $1k from him.
Police say 28-year-old Lauren Chapman, of Lake Como Road, was providing home care services to the 51-year-old male victim when she used his card without consent on several occasions between October 2017 and September 2018.
Chapman also falsified official ARC documents in an attempt to cover up her crimes.
Her resulting charges include five felonies for Falsifying Business Records, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent/Physically Disabled Person, Identity Theft and Grand Larceny; along with a misdemeanor for Unlawful Possession of Personal Identification.
She was released and given a return date to city court on March 11.
