Facing an indefinite financial future, Friendly’s closed 23 of its restaurants over the weekend. The store on Clinton Avenue in Cortland will not be one of them.
The closures included 14 Friendly’s in Upstate New York alone, with three in Massachusetts, three in Connecticut, two in New Hampshire and one in Maine.
Friendly’s will now consist of 77 corporate-owned locations and 97 franchised-owned restaurants nationwide following these closures.
Based out of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, representatives of Friendly’s said the action was taken “with an eye toward ongoing viability and maximizing resource investment.”
Friendly’s filed for bankruptcy in 2011.
It later emerged and has been steadily closing its stores ever since.
