Cortland Firefighters Respond to Fire at Cortland Nursing Home

Cortland City Firefighters responded to a fire at a local nursing home Wednesday night.

Just after 11:30 Wednesday night Cortland City Firefighters were called to the Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Clinton Ave. Extension.
En route to the facility, rescuers were advised that there was a fire in the Maplewood Unit of the nursing home and a sprinkler head had activated.

Staff members were able to evacuate the resident from the room and moved other patients behind closed doors. Thick smoke filled the area, firefighters were able to confine the fire to the room and quickly extinguish the flames.

Firefighters used fans to vent the smoke. Three nursing home staff and one resident were taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center for evaluation after the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
