It was around 6:30 in the morning Friday, June 23rd, when firefighters from the City of Cortland Fire Department were dispatched to an occupied hotel room for a fire.
Cortland Police responding to the scene confirmed a fire was visible from a window with a smoke condition inside the building. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and additional rooms were checked to ensure the fire did not spread.
As an investigation began on how the fire started, investigators found two separate points of origin of the fire. One person was arrested and charged with Arson in the 2nd, and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st, both Felonies.
The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
