Cortland Fire Names Marshall as Departments Newest Captain
Last Tuesday, June 24th, Cortland Mayor Scott Steve swore in Cortland City Firefighter Travis Marshall as the department’s newest Fire Captain. Marshall has served within the department for 12 years. The swearing in ceremony was joined by members of the department, Marshall’s family and family.
Pinning his new Captain’s badge to his uniform was Marshall’s two children, Westin and Charlotte. In a release, Cortland Fire says Marshall has been involved in emergency services for nearly 20 years and is currently serving as an Assistant Chief in his hometown of DeRuyter; Marshall is also the Mayor of DeRuyter.
“Travis has proven himself as a leader in the department not only at the emergency scene but also administratively serving on various committees and union activities”, stated Chief Wayne Friedman.
Cortland Fire says Marshall was named as Captain because of the experience he has, his training, and education. He additionally has served as a State Fire Instructor through the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. As an instructor, Marshall instructed new firefighters in basic fire concepts at the county Regional Training Center and is actively involved in curriculum development and training of new instructors throughout the state.
“We are excited to bring Travis into the officer ranks and look forward to his continued excitement and leadership in the department.” Chief Friedman added.
Cortland Fire says Marshall will transition into the training division as a Municipal Training Officer with Cortland Fire after he spends some time on the line as a Captain.
