Around 2:20 in the afternoon yesterday, Cortland Fire was dispatched to 28 Kellogg Road (Crown Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center) for an automatic fire alarm.
Upon arrival at the building, firefighters reported not seeing anything from the exterior of the building (smoke or fire). Staff at the facility informed firefighters of a light smoke condition on the second floor of the building’s exterior. Further investigation into the source of the smoke condition, firefighters found a smoldering fire within the wall between the first and second floors.
Captain Jennison of the Cortland Fire Department said in a release maintenance workers were able to secure power to wires, and the fire was quickly extinguished. Firefighters continued their search for any fire extension in the first and second floors of the south wing of the building. Cortland Fire additionally vented the building and checked air quality levels.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was ruled accidental. No injuries to both firefighters or those working/living in the building were reported.
