Cortland Fire Chief Friedman Honored With NYS Senate Commendation Award by State Senator Webb
Yesterday, New York State Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) honored 4 local community servants within the 52nd Senate District of New York with the New York State Senate Commendation Award. This award recognizes individuals that have made significant and lasting contributions within their communities through volunteerism and service.
“It is a privilege to honor these extraordinary individuals whose unwavering dedication to service has left an indelible mark on our community,” said Senator Lea Webb. “Their dedication to service has not only shaped their careers but also instilled a ‘community first’ mindset that has positively impacted our youth and neighborhoods. Each of these individuals have gone above and beyond in their respective fields, embodying the values of leadership, compassion, and a relentless commitment to building a stronger, more connected community. Their work reminds us all of the power of service to transform lives and inspire future generations.”
City of Cortland Fire Chief, Wayne Friedman, was one of the four that was honored with the Senate Commendation Award yesterday. The three others were Chavon Bunch, Executive Director of Southside Community Center in Ithaca, Jeff Furman, Founder of Rejoice the Vote in Ithaca, and Jerry Willard, Executive Director of The First Ward Action Council, Inc.
“To be considered for this recognition is truly an honor,” said Wayne Friedman. “I have lived and worked in the Southern Tier all of my life and have committed to helping others through the Emergency and Fire Services. My experiences and education have allowed me to advance in my career and now as Fire Chief of the City of Cortland I can promote unique ideas and goals that will help all the residents of Cortland and beyond. Working within other Fire Service Organizations I have had the opportunity to advance legislation regarding fire safety. As a State Fire Instructor I have been able to educate many firefighters and officers across New York State. I am humbled by this award and want to personally thank Senator Webb for the consideration and all of her support to Senate District 52 of New York State.”
