Cortland Fire Awarded Federal Funding – Money to go Towards New Hoses

The City of Cortland Fire Department has been awarded $47,766.66 dollars as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant in total is $50,000 and requires the fire department to match $2,500, or 5% of the total grant amount.

City of Cortland Fire Chief Wayne Friendman told X101 News the grant funding will go towards the purchase of new Large Diameter Supply attack hoses. These hoses are the large yellow hoses that are hooked up from the fire hydrant to the fire engines. Chief Friedman noted these are the hoses people would see lining the streets during a fire.

The grant funding will cover the cost of replacing all the large diameter supply attack hoses on all engines within the Cortland Fire Department. Chief Friedman says each year all the hoses are tested with more and more failing and requiring replacement parts. The new hoses will now eliminate the replacement/repair costs.

The new hoses will be good for 10 to 15 years Chief Friedman noted added.
