Jack Eves: [00:00:00] X101, Always Classic. Good morning, Jack in the studio with another edition of Meet Cortland County, and joining me this morning is Savannah Hempstead, clerk of the Cortland County Legislature. Savannah, how are you doing this morning?
Savannah Hempstead: I’m great, Jack. Good morning. How are you?
Jack Eves: Doing great. You know, we’re coming up close to July and that means it’s gonna be the famous Cortland County Independence Day celebrations and fireworks at Dwyer Memorial Park. That’s taking place on July 5th, and it’s gonna be another great celebration, isn’t it?
Savannah Hempstead: Looking forward to it. Hoping for no rain.
Jack Eves: Yes. Fingers crossed, no, uh, no rain, but there is a rain date for those fireworks, which is the following day, July 6th, Sunday, and the festivities start right in the morning at 8:00 AM.
Savannah Hempstead: Yes, gates open 8:00 AM, parking still $5 per vehicle. You can pack any amount of people in there, legally, that you can.
Jack Eves: Yes.
Savannah Hempstead: Again, 8:00 AM gates open. The music starts at 3:00 PM We have a great lineup of music that is brought to you by the Center for the [00:01:00] Arts. Which is sponsored by Experience Cortland again this year. We start at 3:00 PM with the Elderly Brothers, great local band.
Jack Eves: Right?
Savannah Hempstead: If you haven’t heard them, please come out and see them. They’re fantastic.
Jack Eves: Yes, I was looking at your lineup for it, and it’s just a great variety of bands too. Of course, you also have the Old Timers Band that are gonna be at the pavilion while the rest of the musicians are also gonna be at the new mobile stage that the, uh, county, city, and the town of Cortlandville, all worked together in bringing in and from seeing the pictures, that’s gonna be an amazing thing to watch a concert coming from.
Savannah Hempstead: Yes. That was a shared services grant that was sponsored by Anna Kelles, which is a fantastic stage. That’ll be great for the county, city, and Cortlandville to use, and we are so happy to have it.
The main pavilion is gonna be a great spot to watch the Old Timers Band at 6:30.
Jack Eves: Mm-hmm.
Savannah Hempstead: 6:30 to 8. Go see the Old Timers Band and then we have a great line of bands you can check out on our Facebook or Instagram at Cortland County.
Jack Eves: Yeah, Old Timers Band, 6:30 to [00:02:00] 8 o’clock. But you know, it’s more than just the concert too. There’s gonna be a whole lot of food drinks. And I know you always get a lot of vendors as well, right?
Savannah Hempstead: Yes. Yep. Check out the music, but we also have our standard Lulus Kettlecorn there at the corner.
Jack Eves: A staple for this county, everyone knows that.
Savannah Hempstead: Absolutely. Bring in the people with the smell of the kettle corn itself, but we also have great food. We have a taco truck coming this year, which is new.
Jack Eves: Nice.
Savannah Hempstead: We have a sipping station with lemonade. We have the, concessions with all the glowy sticks that the kids love for the 4th of July. Cotton candy, splat something with the paint. All sorts of fun stuff for the 4th of July event.
Jack Eves: Just a whole variety. And what’s great with Dwyer Park is it’s so big too, so I never feel crowded when I’m there, but I know thousands of people show up and it’s always gonna be plenty of parking ’cause the fireworks start right at dusk.
Savannah Hempstead: Yes, fireworks start at dusk.
Jack Eves: So there really isn’t, you honestly cannot miss it. There’s so much new coming. There’s a lot of favorites returning. Again, this is the Cortland County Independence Day spectacular event.
That’s Saturday, July 5th. Now the gates open at 8:00 AM it’s just $5 a car. And like Savannah, you said you can pack ’em in as long as it’s packed in legally and safe for everyone in those cars. Uh, and again, a huge list of musicians looking at it from 3 to 8 o’clock at the new mobile stage. And you can get all that information by just seeing their, uh. You can get all that information by just visiting the Cortland County Facebook page. They’ll have the details. Savannah, it’s looking like another great year, isn’t it? It’s hard to believe. We’re already going into the 4th of July in just a week.
Savannah Hempstead: Very hard to believe, but I’m looking forward to it. Come check out our beautiful county park.
Even if you don’t check out the festivities, you can go check out the creek and all of the. Beautiful scenery at the park itself.
Jack Eves: That’s right. Thank you, Savannah, so much for [00:04:00] taking time outta your morning to speak with us on the Cortland County Independence Day spectacular. Again, that’s July 5th. Gates open at 8:00 AM at Dwyer Park in Little York. And if it is raining, the fireworks will then take place the following day, Sunday, July 6th. Savannah, thank you again.
Savannah Hempstead: Thank you.
Jack Eves: For X101, I’m Jack Eves.
