But when it comes to the growth in sales tax last year, how does our county compare?
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli measured the gain here at nearly 21%, the largest percentage gain in the Central New York Region. One-third of all New York counties exceeded 20% growth.
Saratoga Springs had the strongest year-over-year increase of 32.5%, followed by Norwich (27.8%) and Ithaca at (23.4%).
Overall, New York local government sales tax collections totaled $19.6 billion in calendar year 2021, an increase of more than $3.1 billion, or 19.1 percent, compared to 2020.
