Cortland County Warns of Military Discharge Scam

The Cortland County Clerk’s Office is spreading the word about an ongoing scam that targets military veterans and their discharge forms.

A Phoenix-area company called DD214 DIRECT is perpetrating the scheme, which charges veterans’ $79 to receive a copy of these forms, or $119 for an email duplicate with a hard copy to follow. Instead, officials with Cortland County say vets should file their discharge papers with the County Clerk’s Office they reside in. That way, those military service members can either have their original papers returned as needed, or they can receive a free certified copy at any time without paying any fees.
