The Cortland County SPCA has released their statistics for the first six months of this year, with the shelter achieving higher adoption rates than this time last year.
For 2023 so far, 204 dogs and cats were able to find their forever homes, compared to 163 in the first six months of 2022. With this, the SPCA was able to rescue and place an additional 41 animals to families.
Pets in foster care also increased by 44%. Foster care places animals into a home that will care for them until their forever homes are found. Pets that were also spayed/neutered also reached a new high, at 241 so far this year.
The Cortland County SPCA also continues to receive community support. Pounds of pet food donated to Mutual Aid & CAPCO hit 2,027 and for cans of pet food donated, it hit 1,815 pounds.
