Cortland County Sheriff’s Office K9s Set to get Body Armor Donated

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that their police dogs are set to receive new bullet and stab protective vests
Dex and Rhett are the two K9s set to receive the vests, which come from the non-profit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Each vest will be sponsored and dedicated to fallen officers. K9 Dex’s vest is sponsored by its donor and will have “In memory of Sgt. Meagan Burke” embroidered on it. K9 Rhett will have his vest sponsored by The Conway Family of Linden, NJ with the words “In memory of Sgt. Keith Conway” embroidered on it.
The Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. program is open to police dogs that are 20 months or older and actively involved with law enforcement or a related agency; those with expired vests are also eligible to receive a vest.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. was established in 2009 as a not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to provide police and service dogs across the country with protective vests, as well as other assistance. Over 5,700 vests have been provided to departments across all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million.
