A planned debate for the three men looking to become Cortland County’s next Sheriff has been called off after two of the candidates couldn’t be there due to conflicts.
The Cortland County League of Women Voters was set to hold a forum Saturday for the sheriff’ race.
The candidates – Republican Cortland County Undersheriff Herb Barnhart, Conservative Candidate and former state trooper Rich Berry and Democratic Homer Village Police Chief Mark Helms were expected to field questions from 10 to noon at 19 Church Street.
Berry and Barnhart both have scheduling conflicts and were unavailable. The candidates say they were not consulted by the League on the date prior to scheduling the debate.
