Cortland County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Seeking Help

Local News

If you’re at least 55 years of age and are looking for an opportunity to volunteer, The Cortland County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) currently has some openings they’re looking to fill.

  • The Disabled American Veterans Program (DAV) needs additional drivers to pick up and to transport veterans to nonemergency medical appointments in Freeville or Syracuse and then wait to drive them home. Volunteers need a current driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, a physical examination including vision, blood pressure, TB and flu shots, and a background check. Volunteers must be comfortable driving a DAV van or SUV and using a cell phone, GPS and email.  Volunteer drivers do not need to be veterans, and you can specify when you are available.

  • Crown Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Kellogg Road in Cortland is looking for clerical assistance with filing any weekday at your convenience. Volunteer must have good alphabetizing skills, adhere to patient confidentiality rules, and have current immunizations, including flu.
  • The Cortland Community Center needs receptionists/ greeters for two hours between 10:00-4:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. Volunteers can specify which day and time you are available and whether you wish to volunteer once/week, once/month, or whatever fits your schedule.
  • Cortland County Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers for its Friendly Visitor Program. Agency staff visits the client’s residence before a volunteer visits. Currently, visitors are needed for female clients in Cortlandville, Cuyler, or Cortland. Volunteers can specify where and how frequently you are available to visit.

If you are at least age 55 and would like more information about these or other volunteer opportunities, contact RSVP at 607-753-5057 or email
