The Cortland County Recycling Center has announced their recycling guidelines for the 2024 year. This year includes one new change the Recycling Center says. The center will now accept plastics that contain the chasing arrow symbol with the #5 marked inside the arrows.

With the addition of the #5, the Recycling Center can now accept numbers 1, 2 and 5. All other numbers within the chasing arrows for plastics or items with no numbers inside, will not be accepted and must go in the trash.

The Cortland County 2024 Recycling Guidelines may be seen below. Homer residents, please note clarifications towards recycling within the Village of Homer:

  1. In the Village of Homer, rules are set by the Board based on following guidelines established by Cortland County to require with DEC. The DEC verifies Cortland County itself is recycling things properly- therefore the rules followed by all Cortland County Residents are actually requirements of the DEC for the County. Questions can be referred to the Cortland County Recycling at 607-753-5191.
  2. The Village of Homer hired Syracuse Haulers to pick up residential trash and recycling. Residents must follow Cortland County Recycling Guidelines and the Village Guidelines. Currently, as glass cannot be separated in the bins, glass collection is at the DPW site near the Community Gardens or it can be brought to the Cortland County Recycling Center. Glass put in the recycling containers at the residents home are considered contaminated as it must be separate from other recycling making the load ineligible for recycling, so the bins won’t be picked up. Ensure glass is not in the Green Syracuse Haulers bin.
