The Cortland County Planning Board has once again approved Royal Motors plan for a new repair and service shop.
Local car dealer Joe Regan is looking to expand his service and repair center. Regan proposed an over 10 thousand square garage. He has previously said the larger repair and body shop will allow the business to better serve customers and create a few jobs in the process.
The dealership sits next to the City of Cortland waterworks property, which provides drinking water to nearly 25 thousand people. The dealership also sits above the local aquifer which provides water to Cortland and Cortlandville.
Special zoning has been put in place to protect the water supplies. The project will require special permits from the Town of Cortlandville.
The repair shop cannot have any floor drains and must have other measures to prevent contaminants from running into the ground.
Initially, Regan proposed a new freestanding garage but pulled the plan and will now add over 10 thousand square feet to his existing facility.
The project still requires approvals from the Cortlandville Planning and Town Boards.
