In June, the Cortland County Legislature approved a local law to abolish the position of County Treasurer. The move is subject to public referendum and is on the ballot for the November 8th election.
Both the County Administrator and the current County Treasurer are in support of the change. Officials say there are multiple factors for voters to consider about the referendum. That includes significant turnover in the County Treasurer position the last ten years, the decrease of duties the post requires, and that the job is an elected position with no qualifications required to run.
Anyone with questions regarding the referendum is asked to reach out to their Legislative representative or the Legislative Office at 607-753-5048.
