Yesterday, the New York State Department of Labor released the latest local unemployment data for May 2020, showing the rate in Cortland County to be at 10.3%.
That’s a slight improvement from the 14.1% reported the month before in April, but still a drastic jump year-over-year compared to last May’s 3.9%.
Prior to the impacts of COVID-19, March 2020’s unemployment rate in Cortland County was at just under 6%, before that figure more than doubled over the course of the month that followed.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 15.3% to 14.5% in May 2020.
