Cortland County honors Vets with “Operation Green Light”

Today, we honor the men and women who served in the military on Veterans Day.

A reminder that schools and non-essential government buildings are closed.

Cortland County Courthouse was illuminated green as a part of Operation Green Light, a new initiative between the NYS Association of Counties and the NYS County Veteran Service Officers’ Association.

Operation Green Light’s mission is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, with a special emphasis on the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Residents are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb.

It can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a
conversation with friends.

By shining a green light, we let veterans know they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

While this event is focused around the week of Veterans Day, participants are encouraged to continue shining the light year-round.

You are also encouraged to share their participation on social media using the hashtag: #OperationGreenLight

The County is also holding a rededication ceremony at the Cortland Memorial Park in Courthouse Park at 2 PM.

All are welcome to attend.
