Cortland County – Flags Lowered to Half-Mast to Honor Fallen Officers in Onondaga County


Two members of law enforcement have lost their lives in a shootout with a suspect in the Town of Salina (Onondaga County) on Sunday evening; an officer from the City of Syracuse Police Department and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Cortland County Legislative Chairman, Kevin Fitch has announced the lowering of all flags in Cortland County to half-mast as a gesture of respect and mourning.

“With solemn hearts, Cortland County acknowledges the recent loss of two courageous Onondaga County law enforcement officers in a traffic shootout in [Salina].”

The County said

Flags throughout the county will remain at half-mast as a tribute to the fallen officers. The county says it will symbolize a collective grief and gratitude for their service to the community.

“The bravery and dedication exhibited by these officers epitomize the spirit of service and sacrifice that defines our law enforcement community,”

Stated Chairman Fitch

Chairman Fitch additionally noted the importance of the community coming together to show solidarity and support for those affected by the loss.

“Let us stand united in honoring the legacy of these officers and expressing our deepest gratitude to all who serve in law enforcement,”

Fitch continued.
