Artists, arts organizations and educators in Cortland County are among those eligible to apply for more than $228,000 in grant funding available for arts, culture and heritage projects across Central New York.

CNY Arts announced $228,089 in funding through the Statewide Community Regrant program, administered with support from the New York State Council on the Arts. The program provides grants ranging from $500 to $5,000 to eligible applicants in six counties: Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga and Oswego.

For Cortland County’s creative community, the funding can support a wide range of projects and expenses, including artist fees, equipment and space rentals, marketing and promotion, expendable art supplies and other project-related costs.

The first round of funding is now accepting applications and is focused on community-oriented arts projects and the creation of new artistic work by individual artists across a variety of disciplines.

The deadline to apply is October 25 at 11:59 p.m.

CNY Arts said application assistance is available to prospective applicants. Guidelines and application information are available through CNY Arts’ grants program.

“CNY Arts is deeply grateful to NYSCA for entrusting us to administer these crucial funds to our regional creative community,” said Alexander Korman, executive director of CNY Arts. “The arts do not exist in a vacuum; they play a vital role in sustaining the vibrancy, quality of life, and economic prosperity of our region, distinguishing Central New York as a dynamic place to live, work, and visit.”

There will be a second funding cycle will focus exclusively on arts education projects serving learners in public schools or community settings. CNY Arts said that the cycle will open in mid-March, with a mid-July application deadline.

Applications are reviewed by an independent panel made up of creative peers, arts administrators and community leaders. Proposals are evaluated on factors including feasibility, creative merit and community impact.

Erika Mallin, executive director of the New York State Council on the Arts, said the state agency is pleased to partner with CNY Arts to make funding available throughout the region.

“We encourage all eligible artists and arts organizations to apply for this opportunity and look forward to learning more about your upcoming projects for the coming year,” Mallin said.
