The Cortland County Area Agency on Aging will be hosting an informal class series targeted towards older adults to address their fear of falling and to be able to discuss realistic goals to increase activity, change the environment to reduce fall risk factors, and to learn simple exercises to help increase their strength and balance.

The program, titled “A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls” will help older adults to not limit their activities. Limiting activities can result in physical weakness and thus giving the risk of a fall higher. On top of a physical weakness, older adults have also experienced isolation and/or depression when limiting their activity with friends or family members.

The informal class series will be held on Mondays for eight weeks beginning on March 6th and ending on April 24th from 9am to 11am at the Cortland Age Well Center at 165 South Main St.

A pre-screening and pre-registration is required in order to attend the class. For registration or further information you may contact the Area Agency on Aging at 607-753-5060, space is limited for the class and a suggested nominal contribution for attending the class.
