Groups throughout Cortland County are joining a coalition of nonprofit organizations, corporations, government agencies and schools to support the first ever National Fentanyl Awareness Day which is today. (May 10)
This day is to raise awareness of fentanyl in fake pills and in street drugs. The increase of fentanyl in street drugs is the primary driver of the increase of overdose deaths, and fentanyl related deaths are the fastest growing among those who are 14 to 23 years old nationally.
The goal of this national day is to spread the word and it is crucial for everyone to have access to information about the risks involved using illegal drugs and the ways to minimize the risks.
Healing Cortland is inviting everyone to share information on social media and through other channels and to use the hashtag #NationalFentanylAwarenessDay.
