Cortland Community Foundation – Over $9 Million Given Back to Community

It began in 1998 when the Cortland Community Foundation was founded to focus on the needs of local non-profit organizations and for individuals looking to donate to the overall well-being of Cortland.

The foundation originally was founded as a private foundation, but converted to a public foundation in 2007 after years of work. The conversion to a public foundation helped the foundation continue to grow and offer assistance to local agencies.

The Cortland Community Foundation has been known for the organization’s annual Philanthropy Day fundraising campaign. This past year alone, the foundation raised $425,000 dollars for multiple non-profits and gave out $53,000 dollars in grants to various not-for-profit organizations in the Cortland Community.

Philanthropy Day has been going on with the Community Foundation for 12 years, $3.8 million given back to local nonprofits in Cortland County. Another $5.9 million dollars has been given out to about 127 different not for profit organizations in Cortland County totaling over $9 million given back to the community thanks to the Cortland Community Foundation.

The Foundation continues their work focusing exclusively on the needs of the Cortland area organizations and the people those organizations serve. More information may be found at CortlandCommunityFoundation.org.
