Cortland Common Council Meets Tomorrow – One Public Hearing Prior to Meeting

The City of Cortland Common Council will meet tomorrow evening at 6pm on the third floor of City Hall for their second meeting in the month of September. Prior to the start of their meeting, a public hearing will be held for proposed local law authorizing the utilization of videoconferencing and virtual attendance by members of the Common Council.

The public hearing would allow members of the Common Council to attend the meeting virtually and be allowed to vote on resolutions put forth. The reason for the change of law is to allow Councilmembers Katy Silliman to be able to attend and vote during meetings while she undergoes cancer treatments. Silliman is unable to attend the meetings for the foreseeable future due to the treatments.

If approved by the Common Council following the public hearing tomorrow, remote participation would only be allowed for Common Council members under “extraordinary circumstances” including disability, illness, caregiving responsibilities, or any other significant or unexpected factor which would prevent the members’ physical attendance.

Other resolutions for tomorrow’s meeting include approving multiple special event permits, and authorizing the sale of five abandoned vehicles and two surplus vehicles from the City of Cortland’s impound lot.
