Cortland Common Council Meeting Tonight

The City of Cortland Common Council will meet tonight, October 4th starting at 6pm at City Hall located at 25 Court St. in the City of Cortland.

On their agenda is multiple public hearings including a submission of a grant application under Restore NY, Proposed local law relating to number of animals permitted at a residence, revisions and clarifications relating to zoning regulations and enforcement, and several others.

Another item on the agenda will be a proclamation to declare October 5th to be “A Day to Honor of Alton B. Parker” . Parker, who was widely known for running for president in 1904, but lost to incumbent Teddy Roosevelt. Parker was born in Cortlandville in 1852.

For Agenda item no. 6, there will be the creation of a hiring search committee for the position of Director of Administration & Finance. Recently, a proposal was made to create a position of City Manager and reorganize certain administrative and executive duties.

The new committee would consist of individuals who have experience in public administration, experience in conducting executive-level jobs searches, representatives of City departments heads and employees, and members from the common council.
